In an interesting, if not terribly nuanced, article via The Guardian today, Zoe Harcombe opines that eating less as children is the reason that so many UK girls, in particular, will be obese by age 20. She argues that calorie deficits are to blame and that eating lots of whole foods would solve the problem. Worth a read, IMHO.
